Hope Center for disabled people benefits from Yeah Can design work

It’s not that usual for a brand new web design studio to start off it’s client list with a free service. But that’s exactly what happened when Yeah Can took on the Hope Center in Hue Vietnam as a client. Besides being a worthy cause it’s also been a fun client to work with.

Yeah Can only opened its design studio doors in February 2011. However, the team has years of experience to offer its clients. Twelve years of experience in print and web design coupled with even longer experience in copy writing provides a great service to clients. Add to that four years of SEO experience and one can see that clients could be very well looked after.

Yeah Can’s commitment to social responsibility and ethical business practices has seen it take on its first client for free. Hope Center servicing disabled and disadvantaged people is the first recipient. There will be many more to come.

Vocational training and work for disabled and disadvantaged people.

The Hope Center is a small organisation that looks after disabled, disadvantaged people and a minority group the A Luoi by providing them with vocational training and work. It provides a loving and encouraging home environment to people in need.

The Center has been providing training in tailoring skills since it opened its doors in 1991. Graduates of courses are able to work in production making uniforms. The Hope Center has a well deserved reputation in Hue City and surrounds for the quality of its uniform manufacturing.

More recently the Center also started making handicraft products to tap into the creative talents of Vietnamese people.  Vietnamese people have a natural ability when it comes to selecting colours and making beautiful patterns. Handicraft production fits perfectly into this. In particular the hand woven fabric by the women of the A Luoi minority group are works of art.

Besides the classic small gifts and jewellery items produced there are also products made from the traditional handwoven fabric that the A Luoi weavers make. The beautiful colours are enhanced by clever use of beads to enhance motifs and designs handed down from generation to generation. Beautiful scarves are available now. In future a range of handbags and purses will add to this lovely range of products.

New look Corporate Identity for Hope Cente

The overall graphic design requirements for the Hope Center were to clean up the logo, create new business cards, produce an informative brochure, new tags for products, price tags for items, new building signs and decor for a shop plus a new website and that was just for starters.

The new logo was the first step. It was decided not to create a brand new one but to work with the existing logo. Blue and red were decided on for the main logo and a third colour of a yellow green hue was deleted. This has created a fresh and new feel to the logo without losing its existing branding.

It was also decided to use both Vietnamese and English on printed material where ever possible. All business cards are now bilingual. This means that the Director no longer has to hand out two cards. Makes it a lot easier.

Then the brochure was tackled. It was decided that a more promotional item could be more effective than the standard Z-fold that tended to get thrown in the dirt bin without being read. Bookmarks were decided on and colourful ones were printed with different pictures on them. The idea is that in future a small handicraft product such as an ear ring would be attached to the bookmark to really make it a ‘collectible item’.

The next item on the list will be to design product and price tags.

Yeah Can Web Design for Hope Center

WordPress helps disabled people keep their website up to dat

Yeah Can chose WordPress for the Hope Center’s web site because of its ease and user-friendly content management tool. It will allow the Center to manage the site and upload new content whenever required.

This is particularly important for the product gallery of the web site. Current products such as funky jewellery and recycled wire bowls, picture frames and small mirrors have been beautifully photographed by Hou, the leading designer who is hearing impaired, is handy with the camera. His images are easily uploaded and added to the gallery whenever new products are developed.

Besides the wire products Hope Center also uses hand woven fabric by the minority group A Luoi, a mountainous tribe, to make many beautiful items. Scarves, handbags, purses and skirts show off traditional patterns enhanced with beadwork. Truly a product not found anywhere else in the world.

Besides the opportunity to show off the Hope Center’s products to the world, the web site also aims to raise some funding for much needed projects. The Center needs new computers, a shop is planned and will require fitting out, and many disabled and disadvantaged people are on a waiting list for more vocational training.
